Why an Astro JS agency rather than one more theme

Most slow sites are slow for the same reason: too much JavaScript sent to the browser before the visitor can read anything. A heavy theme, plugins and tracking scripts add up page after page. Astro starts from the other end: it sends ready-to-read HTML first, and JavaScript only where it is needed.

HTML first, JavaScript only where it is needed.

That is the architecture of falia.co, built with Astro and changed every day with AI. As an Astro JS agency, we deliver the same to you: a fast site that Google and AI can read, which your team changes with a written request.

Who uses Astro

Porsche, OpenAI, IKEA and Michelin have chosen Astro.

Astro is not reserved for start-ups. Major brands in cars, AI, retail and finance use it for their websites.

Who is behind Astro

Cloudflare, the network that about 20% of the web runs through

On January 16, 2026, Cloudflare announced that The Astro Technology Company, the team that creates Astro, was joining it: all of its full-time employees became Cloudflare employees.

Not everyone knows Cloudflare, yet it is one of the companies that keep the Internet running. Its network protects and speeds up a large share of the world's websites: when you open a page, there is a good chance it travels through Cloudflare's servers. The company has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: NET) since 2019.

What this means for your site: Astro is no longer carried by a small independent team. It is backed by a public company that has every reason to keep it alive. Cloudflare has committed to keeping Astro open source (MIT license) and deployable on any platform, so you are not required to host your site with Cloudflare. We host ours there by choice.

What we do

Our Astro JS agency services

Astro website creation. Architecture, design, content, initial SEO and GEO, the Astro build and launch, in English and in French.

Migration as is. Your WordPress, Webflow or Wix site moves to Astro with the same design, the same content and the same addresses. Improvements come next, without risking the rankings you have earned. See our article on migration.

Headless Shopify with Astro. Shopify keeps the catalogue and checkout, Astro displays the site. See headless Shopify with Astro.

Changes with AI or a CMS. Your team writes its requests to Claude or ChatGPT, or uses a headless CMS connected to the site. An expert approves every change before it goes live.

SEO and visibility in AI answers. Structured data, sitemap, linked French version, llms.txt file and pages readable without JavaScript: an Astro site lends itself well to what Google and AI read.

Accessibility and security. Contrast, alternative text and heading structure are checked on every build. A static Astro site exposes no database and no application server.

Monthly care. Hosting, framework updates, monitoring and your changes, from $65 a month. See website maintenance.

How Astro works

What makes an Astro site fast

Astro calls itself the web framework for content-driven websites. Six design choices explain why an Astro site stays fast without any tweaking after the fact.

Static HTML, ready on arrivalHTMLHTMLForm · client:visibleCarousel · client:idleReviews · server:defer
An Astro page: HTML first, islands where needed
01

Server first. Pages are rendered on the server or at build time. The browser receives HTML that is ready to read, not an empty page waiting for its code.

02

Zero JavaScript by default. Astro strips the client-side JavaScript out of every component unless you ask for it. Nothing heavy ships by mistake.

03

Islands. Only the parts that must react (a form, a carousel, a cart) load their code, each on its own, when they are needed.

04

Content collections. Pages, articles and product sheets live in validated files. A missing field or a broken date stops the build before it reaches your visitors.

05

Optimized images. Images are resized and served in modern formats, with their dimensions reserved so the page does not jump while it loads.

06

No lock-in. Astro is open source under the MIT license, works with React, Vue or Svelte components and deploys to Cloudflare, Netlify, Vercel or AWS.

Our method

A project with our Astro JS agency, step by step

01

An inventory of the current site

Pages, addresses, content, forms, scripts and integrations: we list what must be kept, migrated or replaced.

02

The architecture of the Astro site

Content collections, templates, interactive islands, languages and the redirect plan are decided before the design.

03

The build and the checks

The site is built with Astro and Claude Code (Anthropic's coding tool). Automatic checks verify links, structured data and accessibility on every build.

04

Launch and what comes next

The site is published on Cloudflare, redirects are checked one by one, then your team asks AI for its changes. A partner follows the engagement from start to finish.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is an Astro JS agency?+

An Astro JS agency designs, builds and maintains websites with Astro, an open source web framework made for content-driven sites. Falia is an Astro JS agency based in Montreal and the Laurentians: our own site is built with Astro and we update it every day with AI.

Is Astro free?+

Yes. It is open source software under the MIT license: there is no licence to pay, for you or for us. You pay for the design of the site, its hosting and, if you wish, its monthly care.

Will our team be able to update the site without a developer?+

Yes, in two ways. Your team can write its requests to Claude or ChatGPT, as with our website managed with AI. It can also use a headless CMS connected to Astro (Keystatic, Decap, Sanity or Storyblok, for example) if it prefers a dashboard.

Can we move from WordPress to Astro without losing our search rankings?+

Yes, if the addresses are kept or redirected one by one. We often migrate a site as is: same design, same content, same addresses, and only then the improvements. The method is detailed in our article on migrating a website to Astro as is.

Is an Astro site good for SEO and for AI?+

It gives search engines and AI crawlers a complete page in HTML, with no JavaScript to run before the text appears. That is what the crawlers of ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity need, since they do not always run JavaScript. Its speed also helps the Core Web Vitals that Google measures.

Has Astro depended on Cloudflare since the acquisition?+

No. Cloudflare welcomed the Astro team on January 16, 2026 and committed to keeping Astro open source, under the MIT license, and deployable to any platform. We host our Astro sites with Cloudflare by choice, not by obligation.

Who owns the code of our Astro site?+

You do. The code lives in a repository in your name, with its full version history. Any developer who knows Astro can take it over, and the site runs without Claude or ChatGPT: AI is used to change it, not to keep it running.

Do you work outside Montreal?+

Yes. We work remotely with businesses in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada, in French and in English. A partner follows every engagement, from the first call to launch.

When is Astro not the right choice?+

For a highly interactive web application (online software, a dashboard), an application framework such as Next.js is a better fit. For a team that values its WordPress dashboard and plugins, we also build WordPress sites. We will tell you on the first call.
