Real-time marketing: publishing a page the day your market moves

Partner · Strategy, advertising and measurement
Real-time marketing means publishing, the same day, the page that answers what just changed in your market: a new rule, a competitor's promotion, a season that starts early, a question your customers suddenly ask or a stockout. Google describes systems designed to show fresher content when a search calls for it. Its AI answers only cite pages that are already indexed. And indexing takes time. In advertising, a page that answers the search exactly counts toward the Quality Score of your ads. The process fits in one day: spot, decide, write, check, publish, amplify, then measure.
- Google has freshness systems that show more recent content when the search calls for it, for example after an event.
- To be cited in Google's AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must first be indexed. That step can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks: publishing early starts it early.
- In advertising, landing page experience is part of the Quality Score of your ads.
- One day is enough when the person who decides, the writing rules and the person who approves are set in advance.
- A promotion published fast is still advertising: Quebec's Consumer Protection Act prohibits fake discounts and undisclosed limited quantities.

Real-time marketing
Real-time marketing is a company's ability to respond to a change in its market while people are paying attention: a page, an ad or an email published within hours rather than weeks. For a small or mid-sized business, it is not about commenting on all the news. It is about publishing what helps your customers decide, on a topic that touches what you offer.
Five situations where your market moves
A small business's market moves when something changes for its customers. Here are five common situations and the page that answers each one.
| What changes | Example | The page to publish |
|---|---|---|
| A new rule or a new law | A standard, an obligation or an assistance program that affects your customers | What changes for them, starting when, and what you are doing to help |
| A competitor's promotion | A competitor announces a discount on a service you also offer | What sets your offer apart, without disparaging anyone, or your own offer if it is real |
| A season that starts early | An early first snowfall, an early heat wave, a back-to-school date moved up | Your seasonal page brought back to the front, with current lead times and availability |
| A question customers suddenly ask | The same question comes back several times in the week, by phone or by email | A clear answer, with the cases where it applies and those where it does not |
| A stockout | A best-selling product runs out or comes back later than planned | The expected return date and an alternative, while advertising stops pushing the missing product |
In each case, your customers look for an answer the same day. If your site does not give it, it will come from a competitor or from an AI that summarizes whatever it finds.
What speed pays off
In Google Search
Google's documentation on its ranking systems describes freshness systems, called "query deserves freshness," designed to show fresher content when the search calls for it. Its example: a search about earthquakes usually brings back preparation advice, but after a recent earthquake, news articles and fresher content might appear. When a rule changes, your customers look for what changed, not a page written three years ago.
These searches are often new. In 2019, Google said that 15% of the searches it saw every day had never been submitted before. A page that answers a new question early may face less competition at the moment the question appears.
In AI answers
Google spells it out in its documentation on AI features: to be shown as a link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Search with a snippet. There are no additional technical requirements. On the ChatGPT side, OpenAI explains that its OAI-SearchBot crawler is used to surface websites in ChatGPT's search answers: a site that blocks it is not shown there.
A page published today is not cited today. Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and that requesting a recrawl does not guarantee immediate inclusion. Bing and a few other search engines accept IndexNow, a simple signal that tells them a URL was added, updated or deleted. Google is not among the search engines named on the IndexNow website.
In advertising
Google Ads calculates a keyword's Quality Score from three components: expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. Google defines the latter as how relevant and useful the page is to the person who clicks the ad. According to its page on Ad Rank, higher quality often leads to a lower cost per click.
An ad about a new rule that leads to your home page makes the visitor search. Our article on landing pages details this alignment between the promise of the ad and the page.
One day in seven steps
Spot
Signals come from three places: your customers (questions received by phone, at the counter or by email), your reference sources (public bodies, suppliers, industry associations) and Google Trends. Its "Trending now" page refreshes every ten minutes on average.
Decide
Google's own guide to Google Trends says it: a topic must fit your business and your customers. You should not write about something just because it is trending. Three questions are enough. Does the topic touch what you offer? Do you have something useful to say? Can you verify it today? One person makes the call.
Write
The page starts with the answer: what changes, for whom and starting when. Then comes what you are doing to help your customers, followed by the questions they will ask.
Check
Every fact is checked at the primary source: the text of the law, the organization's announcement, the supplier's page.
Publish
The page goes out with a title and a meta description that name the topic, a visible publication date and at least one link from an existing page (home page, service page or blog) so crawlers can find it. Google recommends showing the date prominently and labelling it ("Published," "Last updated").
Amplify
The newsletter, LinkedIn, your sales reps and an ad all point to the same URL. Also request indexing of the page in Search Console, then submit it through IndexNow if your site allows it.
Measure
After a week, look at the page's visits, the searches that lead to it in Search Console and the leads or sales it produced. If the topic is still moving, the page grows. If it settles, the page stays online as a dated reference.
Our news notes: a real example
We have applied this process to our own blog since September 2026. A news note carries the month in its URL and its publication date under the title: readers and Google know when it was written. As of October 20, 2026, nine of our notes carried a month in their URL.
- Google's spam update. Google announced it on September 24, 2026. Our note was online the next day. It received each new fact with its date, until the rollout ended on October 8.
- Google Ads automated promotions. Google notified advertisers by email on October 5, 2026, of a change planned for October 12. Our note on automated promotions came out on October 6, before the change.
- UpdraftCentral keys. The publisher of the UpdraftPlus WordPress plugin issued a security notice on October 19, 2026. Our note, which explains what to do on your site, was online the morning of October 20.
Each new fact is added with its date, without touching the publication date. Once the topic has settled, its facts move into the in-depth article on the same topic. The note serves the moment, the in-depth article serves the long run.
The guardrails
Moving fast changes nothing about what a page is allowed to say. Four guardrails apply to any page published within the day.
- Check facts at the source. If the primary source does not exist, the page waits or states clearly what is not confirmed.
- Do not exploit a tragedy. A disaster, an accident or a business closure affects people. A page that informs and helps (your opening hours, your lead times, the steps to follow) is a service. A promotion hooked onto someone's misfortune can hurt your brand for a long time.
- Comply with the Consumer Protection Act. If you sell to consumers in Quebec, a fast promotion is still advertising. The Act prohibits any false or misleading representation (section 219). It prohibits charging a price higher than the advertised price (section 224) and falsely claiming a price reduction or a reference price (section 225). It also prohibits advertising goods in insufficient quantity without mentioning that the quantity is limited and stating it (section 231).
- Do not fake freshness. In its guide to helpful content, Google asks publishers whether they change the date of pages to make them seem fresh when the content has not substantially changed. For sitemaps, Google only uses the last modification date if it is consistently and verifiably accurate. A date changes when a fact changes.
In ecommerce, a stockout is fixed everywhere on the same day. Google Merchant Center can warn or suspend an account when products shown as in stock on the page become unavailable at checkout. The page, the checkout and the product feed must all say the same thing.
What an AI-managed website changes to that day
The seven steps fit in one day only if production does not get in the way. On many sites, publishing a page goes through a written request, a queue and then a technical intervention: the day becomes a week.
With an AI-managed website, the person who decided writes what they want in their own words. An agent such as Claude Code (Anthropic's coding tool) or ChatGPT Codex (OpenAI's coding agent) prepares the page on a working copy: it reuses existing components and adds the FAQ, the structured data and the French version. Automated checks verify links, tags and writing rules. A person then approves the release. Our article on what Claude Code and ChatGPT Codex change in website development describes this method in detail.
As of October 20, 2026, on falia.co, 28 automated checks blocked any release that contained an error. Every release sent new or updated URLs to Bing through IndexNow. A daily build published each morning the articles scheduled for that day.
A WordPress site can keep the same pace if templates, permissions and approval are planned ahead. WordPress 7 is also opening up to AI agents, as our article on AI in WordPress 7 explains.
What to prepare before the market moves
These five items are prepared once, when things are calm.
The list of sources to watch
The body that publishes the rules, suppliers, industry associations and the terms to follow in Google Trends.
A news page template
A structure approved in advance: the answer, what changes, what we are doing, customer questions, sources. All that is left is to fill it in.
The names of those responsible
The person who decides, the one who writes and the one who approves, each with a backup for days off.
Written promotion rules
Allowed discounts, mandatory disclosures, how to state a limited quantity.
An advertising reserve
A small budget set aside and a campaign ready to take an ad pointing to the new page.
These pages add to your planned content marketing: they do not replace it.
Five questions for your next meeting
- The last time your market moved, how many days did it take for a page on your site to address it?
- Which sources do you watch? Who watches them?
- Who can decide alone to publish a page within the day?
- Are your promotion rules written down?
- Can your ads lead to a new page the same day?
The market gives no warning. The day is won in what was prepared before.
A site that lets you publish a page within the day, with automated checks and an approval before every release: that is our AI-managed website offer.
Would you rather have someone prepare and publish these pages for you? Our website maintenance service takes care of it, always with the same contact.
Frequently asked questions about real-time marketing
What is real-time marketing for a small business?
It means publishing, within hours of a change in your market, the page, ad or email that helps your customers decide. It is not about commenting on all the news.
Does Google favour recent content?
For some searches, yes. Google describes freshness systems that show more recent content when the search calls for it, for example after an event. For a stable search, the quality of the answer matters more than its date.
How long before my new page shows up in Google?
Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, with no guarantee. A link from an existing page, the sitemap and an indexing request in Search Console help it find the page.
Can my page be cited by ChatGPT or in AI Overviews?
It can if it is indexed and crawlers can reach it. Google requires nothing more than for Search. At OpenAI, a site that blocks the OAI-SearchBot crawler does not appear in ChatGPT's search answers.
Can I respond to a competitor's promotion?
Yes, with a real offer. If you sell to consumers in Quebec, the Consumer Protection Act prohibits fake discounts, fake reference prices and advertising goods in insufficient quantity without stating the quantity.
Should I change the date of an old page so it looks up to date?
No. Google lists this among the signs of content made for search engines rather than for people. Change the date when a fact changes. Also say what changed.
Do I need an AI-managed website to react within a day?
No. A well-organized WordPress site can publish a page within the day. An AI-managed website mainly shortens the production step: the page, its French version and its checks are prepared in the same request, then a person approves the release.
