Showing no price range costs you before the first call
A buyer has to estimate a budget before opening a file. If your site gives no marker, they will look for one elsewhere, and elsewhere belongs to a competitor or a directory. The enquiry you never received appears in no dashboard.
The objection is familiar and it is legitimate. Your prices depend on volume, configuration, freight, the agreement in force. Publishing a rate would be inaccurate, and the first client to use it in a negotiation would prove you right.
But showing an order of magnitude is not publishing a price. It answers the only question the buyer has at that stage: is this a five thousand dollar decision or a five hundred thousand dollar one. A wide range, a starting price, an example project with its amount, a unit cost by quantity. Each of these gives the marker without committing to a figure.
The benefit is not only in the volume of enquiries. It is above all in their quality, because buyers outside your range withdraw on their own, before consuming an hour of your sales team.
A note on timing. The budget question comes early in a B2B process, often before the buyer has a mandate to contact vendors. At that stage they do not want to speak to anyone, they want to size an internal request. A form does not answer that need, a page does.
What silence tells the buyer
A total absence of markers is rarely read as discretion. It is read as a signal of expense, or as the refusal of a vendor who prefers to negotiate with an uninformed buyer. Neither reading serves you.
The evidence is in your own data. Searches containing the words price, rate or cost alongside your product names exist, and they have volume. Today they go to whoever wrote something on the subject.
The two-minute check
- In Search Console, filter your queries containing price, rate or cost and look at the volume and the pages that answer.
- Ask your sales team how many calls open with a budget question, and how many end on a range mismatch.
If sales spend time screening out buyers outside your range, the filtering is happening in the wrong place. A marker on the page would do it for free.
Deciding which form of marker suits your model, and where to place it, is part of what we cover in a paid audit.
Test on one product line, not the whole catalog. A single page with a price marker, compared to an equivalent page without one, gives an answer in a quarter without committing your commercial strategy.

The order of steps before asking for contact details is covered in let them configure before you ask for a name, and measurement through to the sale in cost per sale.
